Emergency Mid-Week Post!

For those who have been following closely (or not so closely) lo these few weeks, you might have noticed I’ve been closing my blog posts with some variation of “Do what makes you happy.” This is a sentiment to which I fully subscribe, and is a riff on the closing line of one of my favorite podcasts, Overdue (a podcast about the books you have been meaning to read), in which one of the hosts closes every episode with “Until next time, try to be happy.” (Mini-list aside: The five best podcast closing lines: 1) Dear Hank and John, “As they say in our hometown: Don’t Forget To Be Awesome;” 2) the aforementioned Overdue; 3) The Sporkful, “Reminding you to eat more, eat better, and eat more better;” 4) Science Vs., “Fact to you next time;” 5) Hit Parade, “Keep on marching on the one.” End of mini-list.)

I might have continued for as long as this blog exists, until I saw this today while shopping with my daughter at the Victoria’s Secret offshoot PINK:

Now I have to consider whether I want to continue to end my posts with this sentiment that now graces the ass cheeks of who knows how many women, of course while ignoring the sexual subtext of wearing this sentiment on ass cheeks in the first place. Maybe I should come up with another closing tagline, but to be fair, it took me awhile to come up with that one (and I hope it took the genius at PINK much longer to decide this needed to go on the ass of underwear). Maybe I should be grateful PINK didn’t decide to put it on the front, to decorate the–uh–lower abdomen. Or maybe they didn’t because it might be construed as an invitation. In any event, dear Readers, if you have thoughts on whether to keep or scrap in light of this unfortunate coincidence, please share them.

I also spent the day helping to build this, which didn’t make me question my ability as a writer. My day job continues to be rad.

  1. I guess my take on this would be – yes, do what makes you happy and women, more power to you if it is you who is doing what makes you happy, not having what makes others happy done to you.

  2. I think that you should keep it as your sign off. The way that fashion stores change their inventory every six weeks, those will be off inventory soon and your sign of fwill be sacred again. But you can question whether they should have put that on the back or the front of the undies….
